Mr. Hain, Mr. Sam Hain, to the Info Desk, please!
Show notes
I lost the recording of my 4th episode to a wonky connection. Since I don't see a file recovery in my future, I'm doing a mediocre Halloween episode. C'mon, like you expected anything more!
Show transcript
00:00:00: Today is the day after Halloween all Saints Day.
00:00:07: I recorded an episode yesterday and a Halloween Episode, And that's where the title of this episode stems from?
00:00:18: Sort of a dream and you're reacting.
00:00:35: You're talking about A dream scene whatever that is right now, And then you realize That your Talking nonsense or You are not talking About anything?
00:00:50: That's that's Connected to reality and Then you sort of stop yourself.
00:00:56: It's the weirdest thing.
00:00:59: what in?
00:01:01: if it happens To you while stationary that one thing?
00:01:04: but if it happens to you when your driving, that's super dangerous.
00:01:14: Not in the sense of oh I'm recording a podcast and i am falling asleep but thats really bad while im driving... The focus is not on a podcast recording or the recording at all.
00:01:27: When It Happens To You While Your Driving this sort-of dreamlike state Without you realizing it people think well, I can just turn up the music and that will keep me from falling asleep.
00:01:39: No one.
00:01:40: uh-uh at a certain point You can't.
00:01:42: you can turn off the music to men award level And you're still gonna fall asleep At the wheel.
00:01:51: and this is so dangerous Because there's just no yeah your tired But there's this tiredness that you can in a remedy with turning down the windows and opening, opening the Windows and turning up music.
00:02:07: And then there's this sort of tiredness that creeps on you but you don't even realize it until your falling asleep.
00:02:16: So I guess this is my PSA for tonight Don't drive when you're tired Obviously don't drive drunk and all that.
00:02:25: But everybody knows just don't try to drive like super-tired because It does happen And it is super, super dangerous.
00:02:38: But that's not even what I wanted to talk you about!
00:02:41: I fell asleep doing the recording last night and so... That one was a bust.
00:02:48: Then two days before I recorded an episode had some upload snafu happen.
00:02:57: It actually right now in recovery-and i'm not talking about drug recovery but Internet gods that maybe or may not will be able to recover the episode.
00:03:10: But I'm like holding my breath.
00:03:14: So in and then my first episode of talk about how I'm always ten years behind my time And obviously, I'm not ten years by my time because that I recorded The episode that got lost You know Maybe two days ago but still on me all my time On Halloween thing.
00:03:29: And Then other one?
00:03:30: I think yeah, I recorded it on Friday and its had some kind of Friday title, so obviously it's not Friday anymore.
00:03:39: Obviously isn't Halloween any more meaning I'm you on my time and Funnily enough i was listening to a Tucker Carlson monologue that he uploaded maybe five hours ago or something And It Was brilliant.
00:03:58: as usual He's got the sentence in there The root of wisdom is I suck.
00:04:05: I keep completely subscribe to that.
00:04:09: Yes!
00:04:10: So, if the root of wisdom is quote-unquote I suck.
00:04:15: then i am so wise...I'm giving another Dalai Lama a run for his money.
00:04:22: I mean did you not?
00:04:23: I AM SO WISE which you would know If any of you had listened beyond my first episode.
00:04:33: yeah gotcha there because I have this new feature on my podcast app where i can see or that I upgraded my plan because it's so successful.
00:04:44: and now, how far better statistics.
00:04:52: And so i can basically tell them most people listen to the first episode and then they never came back which is to be honest completely understandable.
00:05:05: I just had hope to catch someone somehow and make him stick with me.
00:05:13: Well, you can't have them all or even a few... So this sounds kind of ambiguous—can't-have-them-all–and makes me think about the Russell Brand trial because he is said for sleeping with five thousand women?
00:05:38: And there's jury stood out on whether he made it or not.
00:05:43: But Megyn Kelly is following this trial extensively and I'm just, obviously I am commenting on it now but i'm not actually commenting on a trial because its to be honest... Not that interesting!
00:05:59: I can completely understand that Russell Bann used to sort of to the left once he started being critical over COVID measures And he started becoming more conservative.
00:06:10: He got-he was the darling of the left and then um, he fell from grace when he Got more conservative.
00:06:20: so nothing new there.
00:06:22: But the whole trial about him in the documentary and the alleged you know Stuff that he's supposed to have done I don't know i really don't Know!
00:06:33: I mean...I can completely see someone In their nineties High on whatever and being completely, you know enamored with himself.
00:06:44: I can really see him You know Going to places where no one has gone before.
00:06:51: But by same token, I don't know he says He didn't any says he would always get consent or whatnot.
00:06:58: so I Really don't.
00:07:01: but the extensive coverage of Megan Kelly Of the Russell brand trial is interesting to me in so far as she seems to Be favored favorably inclined toward Russell band side and I'm saying this Kind of neutral or I've stayed kind of neutral there because it really like I said, I don't have an opinion on this And She used to be a track.
00:07:33: It used you'd be a trial lawyer.
00:07:34: So i guess its her area of expertise.
00:07:37: then that's makes it more you know, reasonable or more obvious for her to cover that trial.
00:07:45: But one thing I'll say... One thing about the whole Russell Bryan thing.
00:07:48: he came out with a book and it's on.
00:07:52: i think how-I'm bungling at the title but it's something due to effect of How To Become A Christian in Seven Days?
00:07:59: Something to that effect!
00:08:00: And The Book is published by Tucker Carlson's publishing company.
00:08:10: Russell band appears on Tucker's podcast.
00:08:14: They have a long conversation and Russell brand comes across as sort of an old-timey preacher.
00:08:23: He he you know, he's he's proselytizing He's going on and on in on quote in the Bible quote in The Bible Colton Bible And to each his own he can do whatever he likes.
00:08:36: but it was really Seriously.
00:08:39: It was like Tucker invited a preacher a fundamentalist preacher and that's what Russell Brandt was in that setting.
00:08:48: And then I watched Russell brand in short order on Piers Morgan, and on Pierce...Pierce has known from what i gather-has know Russell Brand for a long time.
00:09:02: so he was sort of on the attack..and Russell wasn't having any.
00:09:10: he was having none of it.
00:09:11: He's holding fast, not pulling punches.
00:09:20: so the two were verbally sparring him out and...he was confrontational, snide, he was snippy..he was sort-of arrogant completely different from how he was on Tucker's podcast.
00:09:38: Russell man was and then I guess he's on.
00:09:42: He wasn't on a promotional tour for his first book And so that's why it was hitting the major podcasts, and I just happened to.
00:09:51: I don't know Why even but I happen to catch him in all these Podcasts?
00:09:56: The third one I caught them on was on making Kelly's podcast and So where you know show whatever you want to call do no way YouTube show.
00:10:07: and so With Megyn Kelly, he's charming.
00:10:11: He is contrite and funny And she seemed rather enamored with him.
00:10:18: Another completely different facet of his personality...he was able to speak in shorter sentences.
00:10:29: You know subject verb object.
00:10:31: Usually he has these run-on sentences.
00:10:34: I'm not saying that he isn't a brilliant speaker But he uses the big words and he loves to use them in you better if you listen to him In full Russell band mode.
00:10:46: You'd better have a dictionary handy because he's going for the Big Words Seriously, and so it always seems a little bit pretentious.
00:10:57: Maybe that's just The way he talks.
00:10:59: I like I said, I don't really know much.
00:11:02: Yes He was married to Katy Perry but i'm also not a Katy Perry fan Not a fan, but it's just not my type of music.
00:11:10: But so I don't really know anything about him... ...but i see him in Rapid Succession on three major podcasts and each time he comes across as an entirely different person!
00:11:21: And that was alarming to
00:11:23: me!!
00:11:26: I guess he is also an actor?
00:11:29: I'm not entirely sure.. ..but think he was actually in love with me.
00:11:38: Having said that I should know who's you know on it, but it's been a while since I watched the last and so i'm not entirely sure.
00:11:46: But to be able To Be So versatile And Can and so?
00:11:55: I mean we're all You Know Different People in different Situations.
00:11:59: But Not Not That Different!
00:12:04: It was almost unrecognizable.
00:12:07: If you if you you know if you laid The Tucker Russell the Russell brand that appeared on a Tucker or their talk to Tucker if you had If he watched it's apple side with a Russell that talked to Megan Kelly You would be like what?
00:12:25: It they were different people and You know, I want to appear on Tuckers show.
00:12:36: He would still recognize me if only by my dottishness.
00:12:40: but And here I go I've probably just, you know, conned a neologism because i'm not sure where the Dultrishness is actually awarded.
00:12:54: But I digress and have digressed so far that I don't even know how it got onto the topic of Russell Rand in the first place Really?
00:13:09: No no So if nothing else, I've incentivized to watch If You're Interested The Three Different Russells on the three different podcasts and just, you know for me own opinion.
00:13:29: Since I forgot where was going with this... You might have noticed that i came up with an incredibly skilled, incredibly witty play-on words under title of my podcast Sam Hain Mr.
00:13:53: Sam Hain and I can hear you, You know?
00:13:59: I can here the rousing applause for this but it was Halloween don't forget.
00:14:08: And...I just felt like because i've had okay.
00:14:15: in The eighties and early nineties There's a band called Danzig and its actually solo artist named Glenn Danzig.
00:14:27: He was brilliant.
00:14:29: He's still around, he is seventy-one years old now and hes not making music anymore.
00:14:39: We all have our time.
00:14:40: but he was huge.
00:14:43: And the not as successful band that he had before Danzig Was called Sawin But I've heard many people pronounce it Sam Hayne.
00:14:56: That sort of gave me an idea And if you're not familiar with Aesir, the sowing is the Celtic origin of Halloween that we celebrate today.
00:15:09: With a whole lore of the veil being thinnest on that day between our world and next one... Today means All Saints Day.
00:15:19: so the veil is thinnests in that night It's got all this lore ranked around it.
00:15:31: But like I said, I've heard people pronounce it Sam Hain and that's what gave me the idea.
00:15:36: And if you've never checked out Danzik You know how some things are really timeless.
00:15:45: That goes for...I mean If your'e not with me then rewatch TV shows Gilmore Girls!
00:15:51: You can always watch...re-watch Gilmore girls.
00:15:54: It is timeless.
00:15:57: In my opinion you could also watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
00:16:00: Its ALSO timeless.
00:16:03: Or let's say you can rewatch golden girls.
00:16:07: and then there are other shows that You can't really we watch because they kind of lose their flair.
00:16:12: They were great when it came out first And a sort of they're stuck in there their own time, and you can't re-watch them.
00:16:19: That's just I know.
00:16:22: and so Same with music.
00:16:27: There is some music Like old timey music that you can always listen to and then there's just some music.
00:16:35: That has its time, And it's done.
00:16:42: remember I'm a Gen Xer so i've been around in the eighties in the nineties and The recording quality was kind of crappy back.
00:16:54: Then especially if your if you weren't a big act It was even crappier than my Recording quality, so that'll just give you an idea of what we're talking about here the extent of crappiness.
00:17:05: I was talking about it.
00:17:06: So bands that weren't as big Was out more often sort of sounded like they had set up everything inside of a tin can and That's what?
00:17:17: You know They were recording And this goes for sawing.
00:17:21: It also unfortunately goes with black flag um and Other bands that were very influential during that time, but their sound just didn't survive.
00:17:36: Time you know it in age well is probably the best way to put it.
00:17:41: You can still listen too early grunge music...you can still listened to Temple of The Dog with a late great Chris Conell and let's say the magic if you like.
00:17:56: that type of music comes across But not with Soian or Black flag and that's your I guess a diehard fan of something.
00:18:07: so you might if you're That's not Worth checking out.
00:18:12: I don't know why they never digitally remastered it, but did they just didn't?
00:18:16: But Danzig still has some Some recording some remasterd stuff.
00:18:23: that Sounds great And to me one of the best songs in obvious the most famous song Of Danzix is probably mother in the live version.
00:18:34: Never listen to it, It is very cool.
00:18:37: and Danzig, Glenn Danzig used to be I don't think he's a super tall guy.
00:18:42: He was always wearing latex and bare chested or he had sort of a fishnet type thing on And then...he kinda looked like a cross between He-Man & Wolverine In like miniature versions.
00:19:02: I saw him in concert once and he was just super energetic.
00:19:06: It's a great live show but it basically lived off, you know how some bands have great live shows?
00:19:18: The show itself is what's memorable.
00:19:25: for instance i'm not huge Rammstein fan Really want it.
00:19:33: I'll never make it to one of their shows because the tickets are sold out instantaneously.
00:19:39: They're sold up before i've spoken a word in instantaneously, its ridiculous but That's something even though...i got nothing against them.
00:19:49: music But is not something that would end there.
00:19:53: The lyrics Are clever and sound captures something very specific.
00:19:59: It just my type of music, but I can acknowledge that it's brilliant.
00:20:05: But i would want to go to a concert because the show is supposed to be amazing.
00:20:12: It's so good!
00:20:14: The pyrotechnics alone just...I usually don't go to stadium concerts…but we tried at once and My my concert work buddy, and I tried it once.
00:20:34: And we had four or five six people at work.
00:20:38: We were sort of like okay get on this try and get tickets Buy them.
00:20:43: we buy him off you?
00:20:44: We just want to get the tickets.
00:20:45: even if your not a fan don't worry Just get on by the ticket's and its.
00:20:51: we were On.
00:20:53: they only sell through one provider One-Ticket house whatever you wanna call em.
00:20:59: We were on there like quite on rice, and it was no way.
00:21:06: No way know-how not a chance.
00:21:09: so That what I would start to say is keep losing my train of thought here.
00:21:20: big surprise What i was trying to say?
00:21:22: Is those are bands that you want to watch for the show But then they're advanced if you wanna watch for The Artist because with what the artist brings through the table as far as charisma is concerned.
00:21:33: And Glenn Yanzik used to be that type of artist.
00:21:38: Nick Cave's another one, you just need a stage and Nick Cave in your completely mesmerized he's got such a stage presence.
00:21:51: I mean prodigy same thing ridiculous but i can't think the name or doesn't come to me right now, but sadly I only ever saw them in concert once and it was the final concert.
00:22:14: The final concert.
00:22:15: he killed himself two days later... And you could already tell that he wasn't a hundred percent.
00:22:27: You know?
00:22:28: The show was so awesome.
00:22:40: I cannot describe, you were constantly between going to death and having a stroke.
00:22:48: the entire show.
00:22:49: it was fantastic!
00:22:52: And that was largely due... Well maybe its not THAT good of an example because The stage presence alone, it's also the way that music is just set up.
00:23:05: I mean they were playing songs from the Firestarter album and you know beyond great.
00:23:15: but going back to the artists who have incredible stage presence so definitely Nick Cave and definitely Ellen Danzig.
00:23:26: And another one whose got such a stage presence and I only know him from his spoken word gigs is Henry Rollins, but i would have liked to see him with Rollin's band because i imagine him to be that same type of charismatic on stage presence in this music.
00:23:47: That he's in the spoken-word stuff...I mean um..i've seen him uh pre-covid because he was like a staunch supporter craziness, but I've seen him maybe five times before that and he was superb.
00:24:09: He's just what a cool dude used to be.
00:24:14: so stage presence immense And another lost train of thought.
00:24:24: there you go Going sort doing a huge loop back to the beginning where I was talking about.
00:24:35: I recorded the Halloween episode, didn't manage to put it out.
00:24:41: and now i'm recording this one under The Guys of the Halloween Episode.
00:24:46: Obviously... This is sort-of we're on a verge of the midterms.
00:24:50: that's gonna be huge A big deal And im not..I don't wanna get political here are you only thing?
00:24:58: I really do want checkout!
00:25:00: I haven't checked out James Tellerico yet everybody saying he just so Creepy and so maybe I should have done that for the Halloween episode.
00:25:10: But even if had it since I didn't manage to finish.
00:25:13: It wouldn't make a difference, but Even though I've heard many Many hosts of shows that I like Speak to his his creepiness is weirdness.
00:25:28: There's.
00:25:29: their polls are still showing A large possibility of Texas going blue which is seems very, very strange to me.
00:25:43: To be honest with you but um so that's Lumen on the horizon in the midterms and everything that will happen with them.
00:25:50: then you have all the civil unrest in Europe...in different countries..different cities..the looting ,the rioting under the guise of youth protest....of course!
00:26:01: You know?
00:26:03: So a ton of shit happening The the energy is just sort of it.
00:26:13: all that stuff comes up with a dark.
00:26:15: I don't serious, I'm not being...I Don't want to you know make writing and looting in everything That's Connected to the midterms because there's so much riding on it.
00:26:28: I didn't wanna make this into A laughing stock by saying that i Just think its connected to the Dark time Of the year But I somehow feel it is, you know people do get a little bit A Little bit dark as soon as we move into that really dark.
00:26:49: You know the past that fall and winter There's.
00:26:53: it is a mood changer It really is.
00:26:57: but like I said i'm not proposing That that's The root cause of civil unrest on all that stuff.
00:27:04: so sorry if they make its own I can't.
00:27:11: I guess maybe this would be a good point to just say goodbye for today.
00:27:23: Yeah, I guess yeah... Once you start contradicting yourself it's always a good thing to get out and I'm hoping that she did something fun for Halloween came up with good costumes we had last night.
00:27:46: I was still at the barn until rather late and there was someone walking by in a dinosaur costume.
00:27:54: The back of the barn, where horses sort-of have outside paddocks or smaller ones that are just attached to their stalls... It's not really connected to street but it has this feeling like they did see the dinosaur costume Michael Crichton Jurassic Park style realistic.
00:28:18: it just looked.
00:28:20: um, It was.
00:28:21: it was super green and the The person in a costume Was just sort of dragging their feet And then he's making a weird noise.
00:28:31: Maybe that's what had.
00:28:33: all the horses were outside.
00:28:34: Everyone was like oh my god What is happening here?
00:28:39: Um Then Today One Of The Mayor That that is sort of friends with Rob Roy, my horse.
00:28:51: She had managed to injure herself.
00:28:55: she's got the left side over her face was all scraped up and she scratched it up.
00:29:00: And um...she has a feeding trough in her obviously inside the stone it was all banged-up.
00:29:08: I'd heard a ruckus when i was outside but didn't last very long.
00:29:13: But whatever she did she did it thoroughly because you know, she got the most out of her Halloween because it's really her eyes all swollen.
00:29:23: I mean, she has good spirits and um... She- Her owner worked with her a little bit but i was just like okay could you tell did she?
00:29:31: You know.. Was she kind of?
00:29:35: do you think she's hurt somewhere or you know...?
00:29:42: Has she overstretched somewhere.
00:29:46: Could you feel anything?
00:29:47: She said, oh she was super very pleasant to ride so obviously didn't do her any harm but it just looks like a Halloween related injury.
00:30:00: weird It's a weird night.
00:30:02: that is all I am trying say With the spookiness comes with it...it IS A WEIRD NIGHT Just for costumes or if your into lower Any shape or form, it's a... however you know.
00:30:20: It is weird but also yesterday And with that I bid goodbye and hope to see on the next one!
00:30:32: Bye.
